Take Me Back

posted in: Poetry | 2

There was once a time where I felt free;
When I was climbing towards this awesome peak.
The world was bright as I moved closer, towards this light.
My future had never seemed so right.

But then something changed;
And I felt this sting of something strange,
Of something I could not take, the pain of my own heartbreak.

Take me back to when I first saw your face,
Back to when I first heard your name,
Back to when I first felt your embrace.

I want nothing more than to regain my strength.
But this is my weakness, my deepest pain.
No one knows the lengths I’d go to relive those days,
All so that you could maybe stay.

It’s hard to believe that you’re really gone,
Just like the setting sun.
My heart breaks because nothing can be done.

Take me back to when I first saw your face,
Back to when I first heard your name,
Back to when I first felt your embrace.

I want nothing more than to regain my strength.
But this is my weakness, the memories that remain.
No one knows the lengths I’d go to relieve this pain.
All so that I could somehow forget those days.
